In Sunne, the culture and storytelling tradition is strong.

Here the writer and Nobel price-winner Selma Lagerlöf lived and worked. Her childhood home Mårbacka is now a memorial which is a must-visit when in Sunne. Rottneros Park was Ekeby in Selma Lagerlöf's story Gösta Berling's saga. Today the park is a beautiful sculpture and flower park. The park is also the perfect destination for families with children! For the theater enthusiast, summer theater is offered in Berättarladan, which is Värmland's largest barn, converted to a theater scene. It is located next to Lake Fryken and Rottneros park just south of Sunne.

Mårbacka Memorial Estate

Selma Lagerlöf, one of the most famous authors in the world, was born and grew up at Mårbacka, close to Sunne. Her debut novel, Gösta Berling's Saga, was a success when published in 1891. She became both the first woman and the first Swede to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1909.

Her home is open for viewing. By taking part in a guided tour of the house you get an exciting insight into Selma Lagerlöf's life and works. You can also walk around in the beautiful garden or relax with a cup of coffee and homemade bread in the café. Mårbacka is open daily from June to the end of August, but also at selected times for the rest of the year.

Rottneros Park

Rottneros Park is Ekeby in Selma Lagerlöfs book Gösta Berlings Saga. Here you can go for an ipod tour and get even more out of your park visit. Rottneros Park is not just a beautiful flower and sculpture park filled with scents. Here is also a lot of fun for children up to about 12 years. The coolest thing is probably the ship in the playground. There are also lots of other different play attractions. You can also take a ride on the pirate raft or why not drive a car on the car lane.

Selma Spa+

Just on the other side of the main road is Selma Spa +. Here you can book a full day at the spa and pamper yourself. Enjoy the tranquil atmosphere, fruit and water bar, pool or jacuzzi. For those who want a more speedy visit, there are tough workouts to book. Choose from wonderfully relaxing treatments with massages, manicures, pedicures and much more.


The proximity of the campsite to the center of Sunne means that you have access to a wide range of unique clothing stores, craft and decor shops, grocery stores, restaurants and much more. Spend a few hours strolling around the cozy center of Sunne and visit the theater square with its outdoor seating, which often has various events in the summer.

Here you can also see the Sagoväggen, one of Sweden's largest Mural paintings on the wall. It is painted by Marja in Myrom 2014. It is located in the large parking lot behind the Cinema, next to the stores Entré and Lindex.

Västanå Teater (Theater)

BerättarLadan is one of Sweden's absolute biggest summer theaters. Here every summer, from Midsummer to early September, Västana Theater plays colorful performances with inspiration from popular music, dance and storytelling.
The barn holds 500 spectators and is visited by approximately 25,000 people each year. In addition to the performances, the barn is something to discover in itself.

Alma Löv museum of unexposed art

In Östra Ämtervik you can find the Alma Löv museum which shows contemporary art in different and exciting ways.

The main building Paleis Oranjestraat is a converted  barn, which, in addition to art exhibitions, also houses a theater lounge and café. There are about ten pavilions in the pastures and woodlands around which both display art and are works of art in themselves.
